An Exotic Honeymoon To Leh Ladakh-Here is my story!

The day we decided to get married, we knew where exactly we were supposed to go for our honeymoon. Though we are very different from each other, the one thing that connected us was Adventure. We both love adventure and hence we decided to visit Leh Ladakh for our honeymoon. And it proved to be one of our best decisions.

Everyone thinks of visiting Leh Ladakh but very few dare to get there. Being a remote place far up in the mountains, things are not easily available. Hence, we decided to do a thorough research on how to travel, where to stay, what things to carry, etc. Since we were traveling from Delhi, we decided to travel via road so that we could see the mesmerizing beauty of Ladakh. We got married in May and summers are considered to be the best time to visit Ladakh as the temperature is neither too hot nor too cold. Though Ladakh looks different yet enchanting in every season, we personally recommend the summer season. The roads during the summers are bright and clear with less probability of snowfall or rainfall.

The tour which we booked was of 12 days and it included breakfast, dinners, double sharing accommodation, transfers, biking, and sightseeing. We were advised to carry few things with us like personal toiletries, jackets, comfortable clothes, driving licenses and insurance, personal medication if any, water bottles and some ready to eat items if we wished to carry a few.

On day 1: We took an overnight bus drive from Delhi to Manali.

On day 2: On reaching Manali, we were taken to the hotel by our tour representative. After breakfast, we decided to go for activities like quad biking, paragliding and ropeway. We were also taken to the Solang Valley for bike orientation. We test drove the bikes and later visited Vashisht temple which is very well known for its natural hot spring. We spent that evening exploring the Manali market. Dinner was followed by a bon fire which was specially arranged for us.

On day 3: From Manali, we drove towards the beautiful Rohtang Pass to finally reach Jispa where we stayed overnight.

On day 4:  After our delicious breakfast, we left for Sarchu. We reached Sarchu late in the evening time and stayed there overnight.

On day 5: Finally, we were going to reach Leh on the fifth day of our journey. We were not only mesmerized with the scenery in front of our eyes but also the hospitality of the locals. They made us realize that life is all about simplicity and how they live happily even in such extreme conditions. We stopped at places like Lachung La, Nakee La and Gata for some amazing photography.

On day 6: We left for Sham Valley early in the morning. Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Zanskar, Hall of Fame and Confluence of Indus were some of the spots which had breathtaking views. The best part of this journey was the Magnetic hills where we witnessed our vehicles moving ahead even in the neutral gear.

On day 7, 8 and 9: The next three days were kept for Nubra Valley, Pangong and Tsokar. We realized how blessed these places were to have such amazingly beautiful scenery. A mix of greenery along with snow-clad brown and white mountains. It was a sight that could not be compared to any other place.

On day 10: From Tsokar we left for Jispa and reached there by afternoon. We were exhausted yet in awe of the serene beauty of Ladakh. It was heartbreaking to think about our adventurous honeymoon coming to an end.

On day 11 and 12:  We left for Manali with a heavy heart to reach Delhi on the 12th day of our tour. We were extremely excited to share our experiences with everyone at home.

This was a much-needed trip before we could start our married lives together. The ups and downs we faced during the entire journey made us stronger and happier individuals. The most important lesson we learned from this tour was to never give up on each other no matter what the situation was.
