Participating in the highest marathon in the world is a once in a lifetime opportunity that every adventurer should grab. It is also the toughest marathon and consists of four races that place in Leh. People from all across the globe travel to Leh for the marathon for the adrenaline-boosting experience. You get a chance to run with the locals and interact with them.
The Ladakh Marathon is the highest and amongst the toughest marathons. Of the 04 races in this event, the Khardung la Challenge (5370m) is
Ladakh Marathon was launched in 2012 to demonstrate the region’s recovery after from the 2010 devastating floods. It is hosted by the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council along with India’s Rimo Expeditions and has become a golden opportunity for local Ladakhi youth to stay fit and healthy
1. 7 km Run Ladakh for Fun
A race for everyone above 12 years of age, 7 kilometres Run Ladakh for Fun promotes the colorful spirit of the region. Everyone who participates in the run gets a medal and there is no time limit. There are two water and energy drink stands along the route. Even though it is only a short distance, the high altitude and change in weather makes it a difficult run.
2. Half Marathon
The Half Marathon is 21.1 kilometres long and everyone over 16 years of age are eligible to participate. If you finish within the official time limit of 3 hours 45 minutes you get a medal. There are eight refreshment stands along the route where you can grab water, energy drinks, and bananas.
The Ladakh Full Marathon attracts the most participation as it is the highest AIMS-IAAF certified marathon in the world. You have to be at least 18 years old to take part in the marathon. While you run the 42.1 kilometres of the track, take in the scenic beauty you are surrounded with and enjoy the blue skies and crisp weather. If you finish it within 6 hours 30 minutes you get a medal. The marathon has 14 hydration & aid stations through the course.
4. Khardung La Challenge
If you love the adrenaline rush and aren’t afraid of taking risks, the Khardung La Challenge is just the right marathon activity for you. The run starts at Khardung village and ends at the breath-taking Khardung La pass. You have to be minimum 20 years old and perfectly fit to participate in the excruciating run.
It is 42.1 kilometres long and you have to complete it within the cut-off time of eight to 14 hours. Only 150 participants can participate in the maraton and everyone gets a certificate depending on how much distance they covered.
It is hosted in September every year. For 2019, the dates are as follows:

Registration will begin from March 2021 onward. Participants can register online and pay the registration fees at the same time.
