So, your packing must be in a way that you are able to handle all kinds of situations. For example, a pair of thermals, regular cotton t-shirts, pyjamas, light woollens, and a heavy waterproof jacket. Make sure you dress up in layers so that if you feel warm you can remove at least one layer to feel comfortable.
Also, don’t forget to pack warm as well as waterproof gloves, 4-5 pairs of warm socks, a hat as well as a woollen cap, a cotton scarf and a muffler. When it comes to footwear, pack comfortable hiking boots/shoes, slippers, and sneakers.
Only postpaid connections work in Leh Ladakh and if you have a prepaid phone, the networks will be dead the moment you enter Ladakh. BSNL in the region has the widest network coverage but it is only in Leh,
BSNL here has the widest coverage, but it is only Leh where you will get a stable connection. And intermittent connectivity will be there in Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso, Tso Moriri and other parts of the region. On the other hand, Airtel with 4G data connectivity works well in Leh. However, when you head to Nubra Valley, 2G or 3G data will still work great. Airtel connectivity is not there in Tso Moriri or Pangong Tso.
When it comes to Jio, it has a good network and 4G connectivity in Leh. And as you reach Nubra Valley, you will see the data connectivity coming down to 3G but you will still be able to enjoy good clear voice calls. Vodafone and Idea network & data connectivity will only work in Leh City.
You can get medical assistance only in Leh and Nubra Valley. Leh has a good hospital facility whereas Nubra Valley has a small dispensary only. So, it is advisable you carry all the basic and necessary medicines like Crocin for headache, Diamox or other prescribed medicines for AMS, Paracetamol for fever, Vick/D-cold for cold & cough, pain relief sprays like Volini & Moov, Crepe/first-aid bandages, Electoral/ORS for hydration, Digene/ Pan 40 for stomach issues, lip balm, moisturizer and more.
Besides this, if you are in a situation where you cannot reach Leh for medical assistance, you can seek help at the nearest Army post.
If you are up for the Leh Ladakh road trip in April by your own bike or car, make sure your tanks are filled with petrol as you won’t find petrol pumps in major parts of the region. If you are travelling from Manali, the last petrol pump you would find at Tandi is 366 km away from Leh. And after leaving Srinagar, you will find a petrol pump at Kargil. So, make sure you keep your tanks full before leaving either from Srinagar or Manali. If possible, carry extra fuel along with you that would be a rescue at the time of contingency.
There is a scarcity of banks and ATMs in the Ladakh region. So, it is advisable to carry enough cash.
