Route: Zhingchen-Yurutse-Ganda la-Sku-Markha-Thachungtse-Nimaling-Kongmarula-Shang Sumdo-Hemis.

Markha valley trek is moderate one and is covered in 8 days. A walk will start from Spituk village crossing the barren land and mountains along the Indus River. Immerse in the beauty of the landscapes while walking up for around 3 to 4 hours. The first village you will come across is the Zhingchen covered with tall poplar trees around. 



The village offers you a home stay system which is operated in a rotational basis (Prior decided among the villagers for equal economic opportunities). 

Second day walk is for around 5 to 6 hour starting from Zhingchen till Yurutse, a single house village.  You will get to experience a walk through the gorge and streams also can expect Rumbak village. Since it comes under Hemis National Park, mountain sheep, rabbits, golden eagle can be spotted.

Third day trek starting from Yurutse ends in Sku after crossing the pass, Ganda La (4950m). Though it will be the toughest trek, but the mesmerizing view of Stok Kangri (6,153m) and the mountain ranges will make the tiring day worth it. Walking down the pass the trails will lead you to Shingo village. After walking around 6 to 7 hours the trek of the day ends at Sku.

Fourth day walk will not be much exhausting. You will come across stupas, spring water, streams and lush green valley. After crossing the Chalak, a small village, the Markha village comes after hours of walk.

Fifth day walk from Markha to Thachungtse is an easy one. You will get to explore peaceful small villages namely Umlung and Hankar after crossing Markha River several times. A scenic view of the Kangyatse peak and ancient monasteries on top of the hill will make the 5 to 6 hr walk complete.

Starting from Thanchungtse, sixth day of the trek starts. The trail crossing Mani walls and pasture lands reaches Nimaling. The Kang yatse peak at the backdrop, flowing streams and shepherds rearing their livestock at the pasture land is a spectacular one.

Seventh day of the trek starting from Nimaling you have to cross Kongmaru la (5100m). The path will lead you to Shang Sumdo after crossing Chu skurmo and Chokdo village. After 6 to 7 hours walk, you will reach Shang Sumdo village.

Eighth day or the last day of the trek from Shang Sumdo to Hemis is an easy one.  Walking along the river you will come across Martselang village and finally reaching Hemis.  You can also visit Hemis monastery
