Stakna Monastery is a beautiful architecture settled in the space of Mother Nature. Located at a distance of 25 Km from Leh, this is one of the popular Buddhist Monasteries among the Indian and International travellers. The Stakna Gompa Monastery showcases the real cultural and religious importance of Buddhism.
The Monastery was settled in the 16th century by a Bhutanese Saint and scholar named Chose Jamyang. Rendering a perfect view, Stakna Monastery is located at the top of a hill. Made with a popular Dugpa Order, 30 monks are taking care of this monastery. There is an image of sacred Arya Avalokitesvara, which is hanged in the middle of the monastery.
What to see and what to do there? The monastery represents itself as a spectacular and serene place. Tourists from all over the world come here to capture magnificent surroundings and pictures & idols inside the monastery. Post visiting the monastery, you can visit the nearby Stakna Gompa portraying amazing colourful paintings, and beautifully gilded statues. There are so many small nearby attractions can be visited while visiting this outstanding place or you can spend the whole time enjoying the chilled weather and spectacular view of the monastery.
Best time to visit: It would not be so great if you miss the local festival that is celebrated here every year. April to September is the month when the traditional festival is celebrated here. Monks and locals take participate in power-packed masked-dance performances. It is a bit of advice that not to book your tickets during the months of November to May as heavy snowfall cannot let you enjoy.
How to be there? First, you need to reach Leh as it is the nearest city to the Satnak Monastery. You can arrive in Leh by plane as there is an airport. From there, you can hire a taxi or board a bus to reach this awesome place.
