A Srinagar to Ladakh bike trip is one of the most scenic ways to enter Ladakh by road. The route takes you from the greener landscapes around Srinagar through Sonamarg, Zoji La, Drass and Kargil before the scenery changes completely as you approach Lamayuru and Leh.
The Srinagar–Leh Highway is around 434 km, but that is only the road distance between Srinagar and Leh. Once you add Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake and other parts of Ladakh, the total riding distance increases considerably. We offer both shorter Srinagar–Leh motorcycle trips and longer itineraries that continue through Ladakh towards Manali.

The 434-km figure refers to the Srinagar–Leh road itself. Your actual trip distance depends on the places you add after reaching Leh. The District Leh administration lists the Srinagar–Leh Highway at 434 km and the Manali–Leh Highway at 473 km.
The Srinagar to Ladakh distance by bike is approximately 434 km when you are travelling from Srinagar to Leh. The road passes through Sonamarg, Zoji La, Drass, Kargil and Lamayuru before reaching Leh. For a complete Leh Ladakh bike trip from Srinagar, don’t calculate your budget or riding days using only those 434 km. Once you add Leh, Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake or Tso Moriri, the kilometres increase quickly.
The Srinagar to Ladakh bike trip cost depends on the motorcycle, number of days, accommodation, meals, fuel and the services included in your package. Our current Srinagar to Leh Bike Trip via Kargil is a 7 Nights / 8 Days customizable package. It also includes a 350cc Royal Enfield, basic spares and mechanic support, subject to the package terms. We also offer longer routes. Our current Srinagar-based listings include a 9 Nights / 10 Days Ladakh–Kashmir–Manali bike trip and a 10 Nights / 11 Days Srinagar-to-Manali motorbike expedition.
So, when checking the Leh Ladakh bike trip from Srinagar cost, compare the actual inclusions rather than only the headline price. Bike type, fuel, accommodation, meals, support and the number of riding days can all change the final cost.
The Srinagar to Ladakh by road on bike best route is:
Srinagar → Sonamarg → Zoji La → Drass → Kargil → Lamayuru → Leh
The first part of the journey takes you through the greener Kashmir Valley. After Kargil, the landscape becomes much drier and more rugged, with the classic Ladakh scenery appearing as you move towards Lamayuru and Leh.
The Srinagar approach also gives riders a more gradual climb towards Leh than the Manali side. The District Leh administration notes that travellers arriving by road gain altitude gradually, while those flying into Leh are advised to allow two days for acclimatisation. For riders who want to experience both major approaches, another option is to continue from Ladakh towards Manali instead of returning to Srinagar.
A longer Srinagar to Leh Ladakh bike trip route can look like this:
Srinagar → Kargil → Leh → Nubra Valley → Pangong Lake → Leh
If you have additional days, Tso Moriri or Hanle can be added depending on the route and current road conditions. Our current Srinagar-to-Leh package follows the Srinagar–Kargil–Leh route and then continues to Nubra and Pangong before returning to Leh.
Kargil is the main overnight stop on many Srinagar–Leh itineraries. The journey from Srinagar to Kargil also gives you the opportunity to stop at Sonamarg, Zoji La, Drass and the Kargil War Memorial.
Lamayuru is known for its monastery and unusual, moon-like landscape. It lies on the Srinagar–Kargil–Leh road and is a natural stop before reaching Leh.
Once you reach Leh, keep the first part of your stay relatively easy. Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, local markets and nearby monasteries can be explored without immediately heading towards the higher areas.
Nubra lies around 120 km north of Leh and is known for places such as Diskit and Hunder. The valley is connected to Leh by road and is one of the most popular additions to a Ladakh motorcycle itinerary.
Pangong is another major stop on a Ladakh bike trip. The lake sits at around 14,270 feet, so it should be planned only after giving yourself enough time to adjust to the altitude.
If you have extra days, Tso Moriri takes you beyond the more commonly travelled Leh–Nubra–Pangong circuit. It needs more careful route planning because of the longer and more remote stretches involved.
For a Srinagar to Leh bike tour, you can reach Srinagar by air, road or rail and start the motorcycle journey from there. Starting in Srinagar works well if the road journey itself is an important part of your trip. You get to ride through Kashmir, cross Zoji La, pass Drass and Kargil, and then continue towards Leh. If you have limited time, another option is to fly directly to Leh and rent a motorcycle there. That removes the Srinagar–Leh road section and gives you more time for riding within Ladakh.
